Ceiling Fan Motor Rating Guide

The most important factors for good ratings are:

- Durability
- Ease of use
- Brand name
- Cost effectiveness
- Easy to install
- Anti Wobble and humming technology
- Customer satisfaction
- After sales services

Tip #1 – Consider Room size – First of all, you are going to need to consider the room size when picking out the best ceiling fan. Figure out the square footage of your room and you can make the decision from there.

If you up to 375 sq. ft. then you’ll need a 52 inch fan. For anything up to 225 sq. ft. you’ll need 48 inches, up to 150 sq. ft. you’ll need 42 inches, and for rooms smaller than 100 sq. ft. you’ll any need a 36 inch fan.

Tip #2 – Try to Match Your Décor – When you choose a ceiling fan, matching your décor is going to be important as well. Ceiling fans come with a variety of different finishes.

You can find motor finishes of nickel, brass, iron, copper, steel, painted, and bronze. Blades are often made of cloth, plastic, bamboo, metal, wood or even palm.

Tip #3 – Decide on Lighting – You will also decide what kind of lighting you want with your fan. While some fans may come without lights on them, most of them do have lighting fixtures built in.

You can either pick them built in or you can customize them yourself. Also, if you want to be able to set the mood from time to time, you can get a dimmer switch along with some of the lights.

Tip #4 – Choose a Quality Fan – It is important that you choose a quality fan as well. A fan that is not of good quality may wobble, make a lot of noise, and it probably won’t circulate the air well either. Be sure that the company you purchase a fan from makes good quality motors.

Tip #5 – Make Sure it has Speed Control – Speed control is another thing to consider when trying to pick out the best ceiling fan. You’ll want to be sure that you get a fan that has speed controls so you can change the amount of airflow by changing the speed off.

Most fans will come with either 2-3 different speeds. You may also want to choose a fan that allows you to change the airflow direction as well, since this allows you to either push heat down or draw heat up.

Tip #6 – Noise Ratings – Before you pick out a fan, you may want to check to find out what the noise rating of the fan is. The last thing you want is a noisy fan that makes a racket during dinner or a fan that keeps you from sleeping all night long. If possible, check out how the fan actually operates before you even buy it.

Tip #7 – Take the Price into Consideration – Of course price is definitely going to be a factor when picking out the best ceiling fan. While you don’t want to break your budget, you probably want to avoid going for the cheapest fans.
